Rachel B. Cohen has a diverse background in urban planning and social work with a focus on geriatrics which gives her a unique perspective on the relationship between older adults and their home and community. She has worked with non-profit organizations, governmental agencies and academic institutions in a number of areas including fundraising, program development, strategic planning, facilitating focus groups and identifying strategic partners for collaborative efforts. Ms. Cohen’s background and expertise is focused on utilizing a multi-disciplinary approach to develop and promote livable communities for residents of all ages. Through her work with Philadelphia Corporation for Aging, the Area Agency on Aging for Philadelphia, she concentrated on developing strategic partnerships with aging and non-aging focused organizations. A critical part of this effort was coordinating the efforts of more than 20+ organizations to identify and ameliorate the barriers for older Philadelphians to remain in their homes or neighborhoods as they age.
In addition to assisting with market research and strategic planning engagements at Third Age, Ms. Cohen will also assist clients with the feasibility assessment and development/ implementation of home and community-based programs including private duty/agency home care and continuing care at home initiatives.
Ms. Cohen holds an undergraduate degree in City Planning from the University of Virginia and a Masters of Social Work with a Specialist in Aging Certificate and a Masters of Urban Planning from the University of Michigan. During her graduate career she was awarded a John A. Hartford Foundation Geriatric Fellowship and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Work Study Program Fellowship. Ms Cohen is also an adjunct faculty member with the Temple University Community and Regional Planning Department.
